Welcome to a living and traditional lake Siljan area with a lot of events to enjoy, summer or winter. For children, there are many activities available, including Santa World, Summerland, the Bear park, and golden sandy beaches.
Experience midsummer celebrations when traditional musicians wearing peasant costumes play Swedish traditonal music, and experience the sheer excitement of dancing around the leaved Maypoles in selected villages.
Angling, playing golf or visit the Zorns gammelgård (home) of the famous Anders Zorns, or choose from several museums. Rent a chalet or watch the church boats compete. Take a boat ride on the famous "Gustaf Wasa" boat on lake Siljan or visit "Dalhalla" with it's fabulous natural accoustics, and participate "Musik vid Siljan" (Music at Siljan), which goes on for a whole week. Don´t forget to make your own "Dalahäst" (a wooden horse that is very special for the area and is also the symbol of Sweden). Or why not take a look at the basketmakers in action or the ceramics.
Take a tour up to the mountain Gesundabergets peak with a picnic basket and enjoy the fantastic view over the lake Siljan and surrounding villages. Walk in the forest, pick berries and mushrooms. Walk or cycle around the lake. Swim in the bathhouse, rent a horse for a ride.
During the wintertime the area hosts the worlds largest skiing competition, the Vasaloppet race. The race has many catagories which run for a week. The first race took place in 1922, and runs between Sälen and Mora.
The main race is the first Sunday in March and the Vasaloppet week attracts more than 20 000 participants each year.
Take one or two training weeks in January or February, so that you will be fit to fight for the big race! There are more than 1000 kilometres of tracks in the area for cross-country skiing. Further more Gesunda-Berget offers slalom-skiing in different degrees of difficulty.
There is something for everyone to enjoy and experience in the lake Siljan area.
